Through interdisciplinary collaboration between the natural sciences and engineering, the Einstein-Elevator was built at the Hannover Institute of Technology (HITec) and put into operation in 2019. The Einstein-Elevator is a globally unique, 40-metre-high, third-generation drop tower that makes it possible to conduct experiments under partial weightlessness and various gravitational conditions, such as those found on the moon or mars. The large-scale research facility was set up as part of the former Cluster of Excellence "Centre for Quantum Engineering and Space-Time-Research" (QUEST) under the coordination of the Institute of Transport and Automation Technology (ITA) with the aim of establishing an administrative service and management structure for the Einstein-Elevator. The construction of infrastructure for the use of external experiments in the Einstein-Elevator is also supported.
